Mario Adrion – Model And Youtuber

I had the great opportunity to meet Mario Adrion with his friend videographer Michael Arlt . That day, they were making a video “How to be a tourist for one day and not spend any money”. I replied to his Instagram post (being his follower, I really wanted to meet him) and invited him to lunch.

Spending the next couple of evenings with Mario was such a great experience. He’s an amusing calm gentle person, very focused and very talented.

Mario Adrion is a full time traveler, youtuber and model without a permanent home. He moves between New York City, his hometown in Germany and Los Angeles for modeling jobs and to film YouTube videos.

He is 24 years old and has been enjoying his nomadic lifestyle for the past 4 years since he started his modeling career. He is German even though his mom gave him the most Italian name! His hometown is in the south of Germany with a population of around 1000 people.

I sent Mario an interview via email and asked these questions:

Paint a picture of where you live/describe it?

I live on a wave that is always moving. I live in constant movement which brings a lot of excitement but also requires a lot of focus and energy!

What or who is inspiring you right now?

The possibility to express myself through making videos and to actually have a positive impact on people’s lives is what drives me every day!

How did you come to work in the modelling industry?

I was discovered by a scout of a New York agency on Facebook. I have always loved traveling and going on an adventure so I saved all my money and got a flight to New York when I was 18 years old.

That’s amazing and what was your first modelling job?

My first job was for a fashion show in New York where I was wearing tight white speedos and anime hair extensions! A good start 😉

From that show how have you developed your career?

I have moved from modeling further to acting and now into film making on my own YouTube channel.

What do you aim to say with your work?

I am always the happiest when I get out of my comfort zone! I would have never made the experiences I’m making today if I stayed in my safe hometown in Germany. I want everybody to take more risks and embrace the unknown.

Can you describe your creative process?

I love interacting with my audience and answer their questions including some of the crazy experiences I make on my job as a model around the world!

How would you describe the qualities that define a creative person/artist?

Working on your passion no matter if people are watching! Once you find an art that fulfills you, it becomes effortless and natural regardless of how “successful” you are in terms of money or external recognition.

What’s the project you are working on right now that you feel most passionately about?

I am working on a full fitness course that will help people achieve their health goals without any of the unnecessary fluff the fitness industry tries to sell you.

Do you have a favorite quote that you try to live by?

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone!”

Is there anything in your career that you regret not doing or regret doing?

I wish I had started acting and making YouTube videos earlier but was afraid to face the uncertainty. Now it’s what makes me happy.

Describe your typical daily routine?

I wake up at 5:30 am do Yoga, take a cold shower and start editing my YouTube videos for a few hours. Then I have a large meal with tons of carbs and head to a Photo shoot, call my mom on the way back, go to a coffee place to work on some concepts for my online business, have dinner with a friend and head back home to read Harry Potter and sleep like a baby.

What is your favorite era of design?

I love RIGHT NOW! Where everything is allowed. Japanese underground street styles and classic designs with huge flowers on them. Everything goes!

Who has been the most inspirational person for you?

J.K Rowling – I love Harry Potter and she failed 13 times before she got Harry Potter published. She continues with her passion and was persistent. I admire that dedication.

What project of yours has inspired you the most?

I filmed a full documentary about Milan fashion week with a videographer Michael Arlt exposing the male model industry and showing how it really is.

What are your beauty secrets?

I don’t drink alcohol & drink mainly water and tea and eat 3 carrots a day! I don’t believe in fancy beauty products.

How do you try to stay healthy mentally and physically?

I practice Yoga every day. This helps me to stay focused and physically strong every day.

What’s your favorite film?

I love Good Will Hunting and can really identify with Matt Damon as the main character.

Who is the nicest person you have worked with?

The investor of a short film we did who gave me a bunch of carrots as a gift after we finished the shoot.

What makes you nervous?

Girls!

Do you dream?

Yeah, weirdly a lot more since I started doing Yoga on a regular basis. Many times it shows my actual desires so I write down my dreams in a journal every morning.

If you were a perfume what would you smell like?

Carrot and apricot

What’s on your playlist right now?

I love Taylor Swift when I’m walking around California! Probably because I never experienced the glorified US teenage high school life!
