Rafael Gomez Souto – Photographer
He works as a photographer. He is a Libra, romantic and optimistic. He began in photography as a joke (photographing the dolls of a cousin) then started photographing people, events moments.
“I am quite creative. I am a very needy and lonely man. Although I am always surrounded by several people, I feel quite alone at the same time. So the images ends up surpassing this loneliness because I am always with someone or something new that holds my attention and curiosity. I like to read, watch television, love animals and adventure.”
Who or what is your inspiration?
I have several colleagues in my profession who inspire me every day. I follow their Instagram and I’m always looking for new photographers and new jobs. I always want to be changing and being different in what I do, so I am inspired by many different people.
What was your first job?
I started working very young. My mother had a shop in the neighborhood so I helped in sales. Then I started working in clothing stores & different companies until I found myself in photography and managed to make a living from my work.
What do you want to say with your work?
I try to show people how beautiful they are the way they are, each one with their style, ethnicity, race, color, physical form, and personality, that no person needs to be like the other, that each beauty is unique and beautiful in its own way.
Describe your creative process
I look for several references and save them on my cell phone. I think of some people who fit my idea and invite them to participate. Most of the time, I look for people who do not have prior experience. I see people in different ways. I try to show them how I see them.
I am a modern man, stripped down, fashion, but I do not stick to the fashion world despite working all the time with fashion. I walk very comfortably in my day to day. I wear the same clothes inside the house which I wear to go to the market for example.
What are the qualities that define an artist?
Respect for people, be it the admirers or even the participants of the work. Someone who does his art with his heart, with a good intuition to put his creativity to shape in some way, that contributes so that other people also feel it.
Paint a picture of where you live
I live in a very simple house in a quiet neighborhood 15 minutes from downtown. I live in the metropolitan area of the capital. My house is on a big plot of land with many trees and animals. People fall in love when they visit my house because most of them live in small apartments and do not have that space and direct contact with nature.
What era of design do you like?
The present era, where we have the “freedom” to make and express what we want.
Who has been the most inspirational person for you?
I always see something inspiring in people, as a person, as a professional, as an artist. Anitta Brazilian, funk singer, has inspired me as an entrepreneur.
How do you relax?
Through my photography, image treatment. I also help my mother when she needs something. I meet my friends whenever possible.
What project of yours has inspired you the most?
My nude photography project was quite inspiring. I discovered people’s stories and experiences.
What makes you nervous?
Lies and lack of respect.
Who is the nicest person you have worked with?
I work with cool people every day. Because I am a photographer, I have the opportunity to work every day with a different person, then participate in unique and special moments of these people’s lives, so always nice and cool. Cannot to choose a single person.
Do you dream?
I dream every day, sometimes the same dream, sometimes a different dream, but I believe that the dream is what drives us. And we must always be dreaming and striving to put into realization those dreams.
If you were a perfume, how would you smell?
I have a woody scent, with a very soft touch.
What music are you listening to right now?
I have an eclectic taste & currently listening to music such as Anitta, Pabllo Vittar, Vitor Kley, Camila Cabello, Rihanna, Drake, Jorge and Matheus, Fernando and Sorocaba, Iza.
