Vladimir Snezhin – Photographer
Vladimir Snezhin is a photographer who trained as a professional ballet dancer. He grew up in a small town in the Ural region in Russia. He says his town is surrounded by natural beauty with a wide river.
“The frosty smell of pine trees and early mornings in a paddock, these are my childhood memories.”
His photography is inspired by people and their emotions.
What or Who is inspiring you right now?
I look for an inspiration in an ancient Greek art. Beautiful statues of Greek gods is what I consider a golden standard of beauty. As for the modern artists, I love early Mylene Farmer’s work and her character between an angel and a demon. Her early videos and shows create an amazing atmosphere and take me away from the reality. By the way I am going to see her show in Paris this summer.
How did you come to work in your creative industry?
My school friend was doing a piece from “Chicago” and asked me to take a few pictures for their poster. It was my first experience and it sucked me in. At the beginning I was taking photos of my friends using film and I really loved the click of the camera. Once, during the photoshoot my model made me to take off my clothes and I loved it. I became a model in a photography school for a while. At some point it was my passion to pose, then it was gone. However, that experience allowed me to better understand my models and connect to them.
Describe your creative process. What do you want to say with your work?
I trust my instincts when I look for a new model. I usually pretend to be a confident and professional during the photoshoot, the models then trust me and and act relaxed and natural (but is is a secret). Because of my experience, I am able to show my models what I want from them. I can show them how to move and pose but the rest should come from them. I love relief of the human body. I love to compare human form with nature, mountains, waves, trees… My photoshoots are always lots of fun. Sometimes, I can approach a random person on the street and ask to make a quick photoshoot.
What do you want to say with your work
My work is my perception of the world. Like a baby trying everything for the first time, I learn about the world through my camera. My pictures are about love.
How would you define your style?
Paint a picture of where you live/describe it
As I said before, I travel a lot. New hotel every day is a usual thing for me. I often forget the room number I’m staying in. It is more of a shelter then living. I visit different countries but unfortunately I do not always have an opportunity to go for a walk.
What’s the project you are working on right now that you feel most passionately about?
People and emotions inspire me the most. That is what I’m trying to catch on my camera.
I’m looking for a people who are beautiful inside and out. I love when my models are enthusiastic and passionate about what we do. I have a lot of ideas, but when my model and I start creating together it is very inspiring. I prefer to work with men. They don’t care about wrinkles and photoshop. They understand that lines on your face tell a story. I understand the man’s body, I know how is it to be a man.
What’s your favourite film?
My favourite movie is “Delicatessen”.
What music do you listen?
Recently I discovered Italian band Thegiornalisti. I love their melodics.
What are your beauty secrets?
Is there anything in your career that you regret not doing?
I have no regrets. I’m happy about what I’m doing and I genuinely love the results. If I missed the chance to work with someone, it means it was not my model, simple as that.
What are you doing now?
Just live and and see what a brand new day brings me.
